How to Successfully Take a Break from Tech
Jan 29, 2022Are you addicted to your smartphone? Do you check your Instagram feed every few minutes? Are your clients emailing you 24/7?
It’s time to unplug!
However, did you know that being plugged in can be bad for your heart, your sleep, your psyche, and your mood?
Being accessible all of the time can put you on edge. This increases the production of adrenaline and cortisol, which are stress hormones that cause your blood pressure to rise. High blood pressure increases your chances of heart attack and stroke.
With the increasing reliance on technology, we have also seen an increase in insomnia. The blue light that’s emitted from the screen of a television or computer suppresses the production of melatonin from the pineal gland in the brain. Without this important hormone, your body can’t fall asleep.
And we all know, if you aren’t sleeping enough hours, then you will have trouble losing weight. This is because your hungry hormones can increase. YIKES!
Here’s a solution in 2 parts:
1. Get outside during the day for some real light – sunshine!
We encourage you to step outside for not only the sunshine but also the fresh air and lively sounds of your environment. Being outside can make you feel more relaxed.
While you’re already off your electronics, how about trying any of our 11 fun ways to sneak in exercise? Working out can also boost happiness and relieve stress.
2. Turn off all electronics at least 1 hour before bedtime. No TV, no computer, no iPhone, no iPad.
Now your melatonin can be produced so you can fall asleep at a reasonable hour. You can relax and be in tune with yourself, not with your friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s new job. You’ll wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Start today and tell us how it makes you feel.
